AWARDS WIN FOR PHOTOGRAPHIC WORKS
Photographic Works is celebrating winning a prestigious award for the ambition, concept and quality of the scheme, by developers Hatchbury, which has transformed the site of a former photo processing building, in Birmingham's Jewellery Quarter, into 50 beautiful new homes.
The project was a winner at the Insider Midlands Residential Property Awards, scooping the title of Small Residential Development of the Year (less than 100 units).
Judges had high praise for the project and the way in which it has been designed and delivered.
They said: “This is a standout scheme in an historic and sensitive part of Birmingham. This attractive and well-designed redevelopment of a former photographic processing site has been done in sympathy with its surroundings. This is an exemplar of brownfield regeneration.”
More than 80 per cent of the apartments in Photographic Works, in the city’s Camden Street, have already been sold, with residents enjoying the location and quality of their new homes. The overwhelming majority of sales have been to local purchasers.
The site was home to the Munn’s Brothers photographic processing works for more than four decades, which developed films for companies including Boots as well as a wide range of independent chemists in Birmingham and across the West Midlands.
Named Photographic Works in honour of this, the development has been cleverly designed by local architects BPN Architects to include a variety of brickwork detailing and features which reflect the site’s former use.
It features 50 spacious one and two-bedroom apartments and three-bedroom duplex apartments, many benefitting from access to communal landscaped gardens or private balconies. Private parking and bicycle storage are also provided on site.
